Why I love being a support coach

Support Coach Lead, Sophie Jackson, talks about the value of coaching in coming alongside facilitators – through the good and the bad – as they run our parenting programmes in their communities.

Why I love being a support coach

The role of a support coach feels like it was made for me.

I have the joy of encouraging and coaching facilitators as they run our programmes, supporting them in fulfilling what they believe is God’s heart for their community. It’s a privilege to walk alongside them – whether they’re facing challenges or celebrating successes.

As a support coach, I am invited to check in on how sessions are going, and to tease out how they could be improved. At Kids Matter, we have a clear vision, rooted in psychological research, of how our sessions should be structured. By staying close to this model, we see a growing impact in the lives of children and families.

Our in-depth training gives facilitators a strong foundation, and right from the start of the journey there’s a wonderful balance of growth and celebration. On every call I have with a facilitator, I get to hear the stories of what the parents have got out of the session – the friendships they have formed, the ideas they have shared, the light bulb moments they have had and what a difference it made to try something new.

Now, as the support coach lead, I have the added privilege of supporting our incredible team of support coaches as they carry out this vital role.

I think I might just have the best job in the world.
